About Barry R. Norman
Barry R Norman’s books have received five-star reviews on Amazon. In addition to writing, he is also an award-winning filmmaker, film festival founder and former movie theater owner. Barry currently lives in Gloucester, MA having done tours of duty in Georgia, Florida, New York, Connecticut, Colorado and Maine.
Barry’s writing influences are Jack Kerouac, Hunter Thompson, Kurt Vonnegut and Tom Wolfe. Kerouac’s style of spontaneous prose was the one that stuck with him the most as it is also the method of filmmaking that he and his partner, iconic filmmaker/author Rick Schmidt use. It produces a visceral format which conveys the excitement, joys and pain he feels while producing the story.
His first book, Flipping Point, was begun by chance one day while sitting in his Maine movie theater, wondering about the existentialist situation he was in approaching his 59th birthday. He followed that up with two more books about different parts of his life – his childhood in The Angriest Childhood in the World followed by The Delightful Denver Doldrums which, departing from his first person perspective to use a third-person tilt, details his years in Denver during his twenties.
Barry’s next book was a huge departure from the hybrid novel/graphic novel, Ambient Sanity, with incredible illustrations by Brazilian artist, Jean Pedroso. Ambient Sanity investigates the thin line between sanity and genius as described with possible journeys into an alternate dimension.
The current book, We Blew It, is a partially comedic, historical analysis of all the smaller events and occurrences from 1969 to the present responsible for the shape of the United States and its fractured citizenry.
